Reimagining Resilience 1:

Understanding Trauma and Creating Safer Environments

October 6th & 13th, 2025

on Zoom

"I'm safe. I belong. I matter."

Every child needs to feel this way so they can learn and thrive. Today’s educators face the complex challenge of supporting students impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), as well as ongoing stressors like the pandemic and systemic racism.

In this interactive two-session workshop, we’ll explore how brain science and restorative practices can help create inclusive, nurturing environments where all youth can succeed.

What You’ll Gain

  • Understanding ACEs and Trauma: Learn how adverse experiences impact behavior and learning, and how trauma responses can disrupt the classroom environment.
  • Becoming a Buffering Adult: Explore techniques to support students in managing toxic stress and building resilience through strong, supportive relationships.
  • Emotional Regulation & Relationship Skills: Gain tools to help students feel safe (Regulate), connected (Relate), and ready to learn (Reason), fostering both social and academic growth.
  • Culturally Responsive Practices: Discover strategies to ensure all students feel seen, valued, and a sense of belonging.
  • Power Dynamics & Equity: Examine how power structures affect relationships in schools. Learn to challenge implicit biases and shift from “power over” to “power with” practices that promote inclusion.

Why It Matters
This workshop empowers educators and youth workers to challenge systemic inequities and build more inclusive, supportive learning environments. By shifting our own mindsets and practices, we model collaboration and compassion—ultimately breaking cycles of disengagement, bullying, and other harmful behaviors.

Join us to build the skills to guide and inspire young people toward a brighter, more compassionate, and successful future.
