"I'm safe. I belong. I matter."

Every child needs to feel this way so they can learn and thrive. Today’s educators face the challenge of supporting students who are affected by the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), as well as the ongoing stressors of environmental factors such as the pandemic and systemic racism. In this interactive two-session workshop, we’ll explore how brain science and restorative practices can be used to create safe and inclusive spaces where all youth can succeed.

We introduce foundational concepts like the ACEs study and Adlerian psychology to provide theory, alongside practical strategies for navigating power dynamics, strengthening relationships, and promoting equity in the classroom.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Understanding ACEs and Trauma: Discover how adverse experiences and trauma responses impact learning and can lead to behaviors that disrupt learning.
  • Becoming a Buffering Adult: Learn techniques to help students manage toxic stress and build resilience through supportive adult relationships
  • Critical Emotional Regulation and Relationship Building Skills: Gain strategies to help students feel safe (Regulate), connected (Relate), and capable to learn (Reason), so they can build social and academic skills
  • Culturally Relevant Practices: Explore methods to ensure ALL students feel seen, and know that they matter and belong
  • Power Dynamics and Equity: Examine how the power structures within educational settings impact relationships. Learn how to address implicit biases and shift from “power over” to “power-with” practices that foster equity and inclusion.

This workshop will equip educators and youth workers with the tools and insights needed to recognize and challenge systemic inequities, helping to create more inclusive and supportive educational environments. By transforming our own practices and mindsets, we can inspire students to adopt collaborative and compassionate approaches. This transformation can ultimately break harmful cycles that perpetuate bullying, disengagement, and other negative behaviors.

Join us to develop the knowledge and skills to lead and inspire young people toward a brighter, more compassionate, and successful future.
